Hi folks,
I've had my 13' for 3 years. I installed a 7-pin connector on my car using parts from eTrailer and the connection has been solid --- until now. Recently on a trip I discovered my left turn signal and brake light was not working. Skip forward and now I've determined that the problem is the connection between the car and trailer. The left and right turn / brake lights are on opposite sides of the plug. If I wiggled it a little to one side or the other, the other light works dimly or not at all. I'm pretty careful to always hang the Scamp plug downward to keep our water and debris, and the socket on the car has a cover. When I put my 7-pin tester in the car socket, it always works even if I wiggle it, and it seems more solidly in the socket than does the Scamp cable. I've tried cleaning the contacts. It seems to be somewhat better, but I can still get one side or the other to quit working by wiggling the plug. I would have liked to push the individual connectors on the Scamp side together to make a tighter connection, but I don't see a way to do that.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Check that you have good, clean, solid connection on the ground wire(s).
You can tighten the contacts on the trailer connector with a little gentle bending with a small screw driver. Mine 2006 needs that now and then.
Thanks. I wasn't very successful trying to do that. I'll try again. Re the previous note, I'm pretty sure it's not a ground problem as I can get the lights to work together or either separately by wiggling the plug.
thanks
tom
I've had to clean mine up with a small file or emery paper occasionally. Some small degree of corrosion is inevitable since these are outdoors.
