I have a question about the heater. I’m speaking specifically about a 16-foot, layout 6, if that is helpful to know.
It would be doubtful that I would be doing any winter camping, so I’m thinking of ordering a Scamp without the heater. I would do some shoulder season camping, and I think I could use a small ceramic heater (got that idea from another thread) just to take the edge off.
According to the pictures on the Scamp website, the heater would be under one of the seats in the side dinette. If the heater is not ordered, is there simply an empty space in its place that could be used for storage?

The Scamp "heater" is an lp gas furnace that is totally automatic and I like it noise and all. If you are using campsites with electric all of the time the ceramic heater will do the job. Note also that the air conditioner can be ordered with a heat strip and I use mine on cool mornings to take the edge off. It how ever has no thermostat and must be turned off when it gets warm. With out the furnace I would think that you would get another door over a storage space.
Thanks, I didn't known that the AC could be ordered with a heat strip. (Okay, I never heard of a heat strip, but I get the idea). That may do the trick! Sounds like that would result in a bit more storage space.

Thanks, I can live with the either ON or OFF setting. Not ideal, but acceptable. I know I'd order with the AC, so it's just an add-on from there.
You'd be surprised where you might need a heater to keep a. the dampness or B. the chill off. 03/05/2021 Ft. Myers, FL 54' this morning! Going up to 84 today.

There is a nice old Scamp 5th wheel for sale over in Georgetown, MD for $13,000 with a lot of upgrades but I would have to get rid of the SUBE for a 5th wheel. As far as the Guinness is concerned, I gave it up when it went over $5 a pint. I will have one on the 17th with my Corned Beef Sandwich. I won't drink the bottled stuff.

I would order it with the heater. It isn't an expensive option. We use ours frequently, there are many times when we are off the grid camping and it is nice to have optional heat. It is much cheaper to have it in the build than to add it later.

i would have the heater, we use ours. it beats a portable heater becase it's built in. doesn't take up anymore space or anything. also it uses propane. a portable heater is a health/safety concern if you're burning fluid inside your rig and not properly vented. no issue there with the standard heater. we live in the midwest though so we need it!

This is my spin on furnaces/heat strips. The colder it is outside the less you notice the noise. I find the noise from the A/C blower using a heater element much more annoying than furnace noise. Back in the day when used trailer prices weren't so crazy, southern trailers with no A/C and northern trailers with no furnaces always brought a lot less money than the initial cost of the of a factory installed option so why not install a furnace and enjoy it if needed. The only reason for me not ordering a furnace would be If I planned on installing a different off grid heating option. With powered campsites becoming scarce you may finding yourself doing some unplanned dry camping in colder weather. Over the years there are more post of people adding furnaces than people removing furnaces. FWIW Whenever we have power we use our ceramic cube heater.
