Plisse Screen Door

Maintenance Tip:

The retractable Plisse screen door has an inside and outside channel the door handle is fastened into. I had a problem where the inside handle would slide down the track to the floor. I had to use a piece of electrical tape to hold up the handle so it could be used.

In looking at the outside handle it looked like it had a fastener of some type holding the handle in place but no such fastener on the inside.

I contacted Plisse via their web site and learned there is a set screw in each handle and it takes a very very tiny allen wrench (hex key) to keep the set screw tight. In my case the inside handle was missing this set screw and the outside handle was loose and about to suffer the same fate.

Plisse is sending me a new handle, set screw and wrench to fix my missing one. GREAT quick customer service.

This is just an FYI for those with the newer Plisse screen doors on their Scamps to check the set screws before they fall out. (or only your dog will appreciate the new handle at floor level when it slides down.) laugh

Thanks for that about the

Thanks for that about the screen door. We had the same problem, and I've just been using a strip of Gorilla Tape to hold the handle up, but yours sounds like the real fix.

I have a general winter storage question for everybody. We got our 16' layout 4 in Backus this summer, had a great time meeting folks at the factory and kicking around town for a day or two before heading up to Itasca (which was fabulous and very repeatable), then east to Sawbill Lake and the BWCAW for another few days. It was a terrific shakedown cruise and everything turned out great. Love that trailer.

On the Scamp maintenance recommendations somewhere it says to consider jacking up the axle for the winter (or any long period of storage) to take weight and stress off. My question is, where does one do that? Do I actually jack up the axle itself, or jack up the trailer from points on the frame? Don't really want to try this without being sure. Any advice will be great. Thanks! Jonathan

jacking up the axle

It's not a good idea to jack on any RV axle. They bend. Just get most of the weight off the axle by jacking under the frame near the axle.

Decal

Nice warning decal!

Is that on the trailer frame to the front or rear of the axle?

I have read a lot of posts that go back and forth debating the long term storage benefits of jacking up the trailer. If nothing else your decal should stop a road service from bending the axle should one have a roadside flat tire.

Yeah - that decal looks handy

Yeah - that decal looks handy. And thanks for the tips on jacking points. I think I'll just get under there tomorrow and maybe put a few grease pencil marks on good points on the frame to jack from in case I ever need to and don't jack the axle by mistake.

Plisse screen

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has had this issues with their plisse screen? The black tabs that hold the screen to the frame popping out?

Screen door on my 2018 Scamp 13'

The screen door on my nearly new Scamp is useless.  I've had terrible customer service from Scamp...including my 9 hour drive to their company for what should've been warranty work.

The screen door handle slid doqn before ever being used so I had to get that fixed.  Soon after the screen began sagging and it just gets worse and worse.  I can't even use it now.

Anyone have an idea?

Screen door

Hi Captain Kathy,

Did you read what JRB wrote sounded like he had same problem and called Plisse and the sent a new handle. Sounds like the handle has a role in keeping your screen up along with the black u shaped tabs that run along the frame of the screen. Sorry you are having problems.

Good luck Connie

Plisse Door

Thank you for the input on this.  I will try to replace the clips.  :)  If only manufacturer's could invest the extra $.30 when building things like this it could save the end user a lot of headaches, right???
