Pulling 2004 Scamp layout 2 with A/C, awning - actual weight

Hello, We are looking at purchasing a 2004 Scamp Layout 2 that has factory installed roof A/C and awning. Looking to pull with a Subaru Outback rated to tow 2700lbs. Wondering if anyone has a similar layout/options and if you have had it weighed. We are looking for actual weight with these options and cannot seem to find that number. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

S-13 or S-16?

You did not specify S-16 or 13. First OB owners do not recommend towing a S-16. The issue with the OB's is the 200 lb tongue wt. limit not the total weight limit. An empty S-13 with bath and dual tanks tongue weight is about 245 lbs.  If you remove one tank an tray and change regulators you can get it to about 215 lbs. With a little water in your tank or stuff loaded in the rear of the lower floor you can get to the 200 lb limit and also be at the 10% limit. The goucho Scamps with single tanks and proper loading should not be an issue. I have heard Subaru in the future may be changing the tongue weight limit to 270 lbs. and changing engines in the OB.

Its a Scamp 13"

Hi and thanks for your response Eddie! Its a 13' and the owner weighed it today so it came in at 1580lbs. One propane tank has already been removed and the tray replaced to hold only one tank.

1580 lbs

You will need to get a weight of how much is on the ball only. I like to see 10 - 12 % of total weight on the ball at towing height. A bathroom scale should work.

Scale

We too used a 300 lb bathroom scale and a piece of 15 inch long   2x8 to accurately get the tongue weight with  a level and as loaded 2019 s13 with shower no AC and by moving things around and with or without the bike rack  we could easily meet the 10-12%of around 160lb.  By using the tongue jack you change the actual weight from what would be on the ball so be careful to block the wheels when weighing as it could roll and be bad
