mileage with 8-cylinder vehcile vs 4-cylinder

Folks. Just purchased a spankin' new 13' w/ wet bath.  I'm new to the Scamp world and  about to go on a long trip.  My 4-cylinder 2018 Subaru Outback dropped from 33 mpg to 18 mpg averaging 65. mph.   Any idea what I might expect the mileage to drop in my 2004 8-cylinder Ford van?  Normally, I get 15-17 mpg again at 65 - 70..

Thanks!!

The gas mileage drop from 33

The gas mileage drop from 33 to 18 is, call it, 45% drop. In terms of percentages the van mileage should drop much less. Maybe 25 to 30%. So, it should be somewhere about 12, would be my guess. Maybe somebody here has towed with a van like that and might have an actual number.

My 2018 Chevy Silverado 4.3

My 2018 Chevy Silverado 4.3 truck V6 only dropped 1.4 mpg to 23 mpg in 561 miles from St. Paul, Minnesota to east central Illinois. Speed was 60 mph on mostly 4 lanes with trailer mode engaged. 285 horsepower. First time towing a travel trailer. Ran thru 2 heavy rain storms with all kinds of high winds & 2005 13 ft Scamp performed wonderfully! Couldn't even tell I was towing it. Only problem was the escape hatch vent opened itself 3 inches & leaked some rain but luckily didn't permanently hurt anything. I installed small eye bolt in side trim & small bungie to hold handle cranked shut.

4 cylinder milage.

I think that it's the wind resistance that's beating up your mileage. A van like the pickup will block most wind resistance. I just towed my (my new to me) 13 Scamp behind my Lincoln MKC 4 cylinder over 500 miles on interstates at 65 mph and my mileage dropped from a normal 29 to 19 mpg.
