Harbor Freight 100 watt solar kit

For $199-20%...portable, with stand and controller.

Anyone tried this?

Not looking for complexity....just clip it on and top up the trailer battery.

Solar

Harbor Freight panels have been used by quite a few folks on the Scamps.

100W is certainly more than enough for normal use on a 13 Scamp outfitted with LED lights etc. You could probably consider a 50W portable and save a bit of $$ and still get the job done well.

So, it's just hooked to the battery

whether or not the 12v. is being used?  I'm ordering a 27 series with my Scamp.

If not now, when?

Solar Panel

Most of the portables have alligator clips to clip right on the battery posts. I wired a port to my battery so all I had to do was plug in and not have to open the battery box. Also most have the controller mounted on the panel and the controller should be as close to the battery as possible, so you don’t want to do long runs of cable with these.

For a complete solar rundown and info read through our solar resources.

Thanks for the input...the H.F. panels are heavy and bulky...one 50w. mono panel is what I'll look for.

The four HF polycrystalline

The four HF polycrystalline panels will give you 100 watts, but only one mono-crystaline  approximately the the same size as one of the 25 watt HF panels, will put out 100 watts.  Storing only one panel as apposed to storing 4 panels in a 13’ trailer would be the way I would go.

We got one of their 3 panel

We got one of their 3 panel/45 watt systems over 10 years ago just to see if solar was a good option. Our test was successful, but the three panels were difficult to transport and set up. We still have that system, but it's now permanently set up and keeps our Scamp battery charged while it sits under a cover at home.

We have since purchased a single 90 watt movable panel, and later added another 90 watt permanent panel on the roof of our Scamp 16.

Gotta love solar!
