Pics of the mistery Scamp

OK Greg, you asked for it ....here are the pics I have.  I based my estimate of the year model on the serial numbers on the refrigerator and a/c unit, water pump etc. Some have the numbers "71 and 72" in the last part of their id numbers. When I get time I'll see if I can find info on ID for those units. I could be way off on the year. All water lines are plumbed with gray pex and sewer lines are white pvc. Anyone know if that was in the early models? Seems like pex was not around until 80's. Most older campers I've owned were plumbed with copper and drain lines were abs (black plastic). Toilet bowl is porcelian (haven't seen one of those in a while).

Fridge is DometicNumbers on toungue

Near flawless workmanship on entrance door latch! lol

Water heater is a Suburban

Casita SD

Greg,

Oh great.....now I have to change my profile.....

No really, many thanks. That explains a lot of things.

Anyway, do you think the Scamp door hinges would work as repalcements?

I'd be interested in any links you could provide for Casita info.

Casita

Of course, we're happy to help you as well and we have SOI members with all kinds of trailer makes, even one guy with a Van! cheeky  So we hope you continue to hang out with us.

Our very good friends at Casita Travel Trailer Forum can give you the quickest responses for your trailer and parts information. I've known the owner of that forum and many of the folks over there for many years and like SOI members, they're great people. If you give Casita Trailers a call 800-442-9986 I'm sure they'd help you identify the year and door parts....  Let us know what you find out and keep us posted on your rehab progress.

Casita

Greg,

Thanks.....I've joined the Casita TT forum and am gathering info.

Ordered new hinges ($72) and door latch assembly ($63) from Casita. There are several threads out there about searching for hinges and the lack of availabillity but Casita had them on the shelf. Maybe the price is what stops some from buying from Casita. At least they will be the right ones for the trailer.

Still not sure of the exact year since the tag that contains info has been removed Pretty sure it is pre-1984 model based on appliances. Really does not make difference at this point as long as I can get the parts I need.

Again, thanks for sending me down the correct path and if it turns into a full blown rebuild I'll post some pics.

Casita for sure

I agree with Gregg.  Call Casita.  Have the serial number ready.  They can tell you a lot from that.  I have just "converted" from being a Casita owner.  I've had 4 of them.  All were fix-r-uppers.  Casita was quite helpful.  They should have a door latch for you.  I had to replace one on a 98 I had.  I recommend you make sure all the rivet caps are ok.  I recommend you replace them too.  You will likely need to replace rivits too.  You can get the correct sizes from them.  Get some Poliglow fiberglass restorer.  That stuff will put the shine back on her.

Casita

GeneM,

Thanks for the info. I've ordered hinges and door latch from Casita. No serial # on this trailer, the tag that was riveted to the tongue is missing. And there is no title. Tracking down the last 2 owners in hopes that the title may still exist.

I emailed Dometic with the model and ser. # for the refrigerator and they tell me that particular model was only produced from '92 to '94. So it is at least as new as '92. I've heard from others that the serial number may also be stamped into the axle but I have not found it yet.

Polyglow won't help this one. It was painted green at one time then mauve and now it is white. Really rough paint job too. The good thing is whatever they used seems to have sealed all the areas around missing rivet caps for now because I have no leaks. It will need to be stripped and repainted to ever be right. For now, it looks ok from about 20' away.

We're planning a 3 week trip this Aug. and will decide whether or not we like it well enough to invest the money and time to restore.
