Port a John Ideas

Have always been fickle about going in our 26 ft TT.  Unless its an emergency we all walk to rest rooms to do our business.  Of course middle of the night rolls around and duty calls (# 2 better be extreme emergency -- general rule no poopin in the rv).  New scamp no inside toliet -- here are thoughts diagram on outside port a john.  I am sure there are a variety of ways to tackle this problem.  Thanks for any output -- i mean input you may have.

PortaJohn Simple

Why not just buy a large capacity PortaPotti (because the seat is as high as a home john) and set it up wherever you like?  We use one in our scamp that we ordered with a bathroom but no plumbing.  For the two of us, just at night. it's good for a week.  Very simple.

Size of Waste Tank

I was wondering what size of waste tank you were looking at getting to gauge what options there might be.  You'll have to haul that waste tank and take it the dump to empty.  A porti-potti can be emptied in a regular toilet.  There are different options for portable toilets from very simple to complex and expensive.

We have a cassette toilet in our pop-up, a Thetford portable in our van and we worked on the house plumbing and bought this: Reliance Products Hassock Portable Lightweight Self-Contained Toilet (colors may vary) I like it SO much better than the Thetford portable because it is so easy to empty and clean.  The others have crevices and if you don't follow the directions for flushing, it can "burp" when you flush.  That's not good.

Adding, will you have any sort of bowl?  I could not tell if you intended to buy the "blue boy" or if you would have something else with a wider mouth on it since I think the "blue boy" has 3" or 4" at the most in the opening.

One Step Further

Just my thoughts along the same lines of the others, but my first impression was way overcomplicating what already exists. I'd go with the porta potty recommendations, but add an inexpensive Bathroom Tent.

These are setup to accomodate a Coleman 5-Gallon Solar Shower or a ZODI Outback Gear Zip Instant Hot Shower as well which would give you a full bathroom with very little muss or fuss.

You can then have a full bathroom setup in minutes outside the trailer or just use the porta-potty overnight inside the trailer.

Traveling Composting Toilet

Lat last winter, my wife and I bought a C Head composting toilet.  I tell people that it was my second best purchase next to a wedding ring.  The C Head is very stable and extremely easy to service.  It is not easily hidden, we just cover it with a cloth.  When traveling, it stores under the table with the bedding bag.  There is no nasty odor.  There are videos on youtube.

Bob, I've been seriously

Bob, I've been seriously looking into the C-Head for my 13' Scamp. I was trying to figure where it would fit (no bathroom, etc.). You mentioned storing it under the table while in transit; where do keep it while Scamping?

Also, where do you dump the contents when it's full? How has it been working out for you thus far?

Thanks! : )

C' Head

Ray,

During the day, it sets covered, close to the closet and bed.  At night, it sets in the doorway ready to use.

We had a special place at the farm where we dump the solids.  We have never came close to filling the solids container.  We dumped it last week for the second time.  It is best to dump them into a container that is not influenced by water and let the composting run it course then recycle the compost.  The liquids are dumped daily or every other day and rotated out.  Whenever possible the liquids are emptied into a human sewage system.

For Lilly and I and our camping needs, the C' Head was a good choice.

Bob, thought I would let you

Bob, thought I would let you know I recently ordered the "Shorty" version of the C-Head for use in my Scamp. It is due to arrive sometime next week. Will let you know how it works out. Thanks for your input!
