Another option question

I am still reviewing options for the Scamp we have on order.

Is a second set of tail lights necessary and/or advisable? I am not sure why one would need them. Please enlighten me.

I have them on my '99 13

I have them on my '99 13 footer. If I ever buy a new Scamp, it will have them. The taillights that Scamp uses are not the brightest, especially when it is sunny out. Having the second set up high, more directly at eye level to a driver behind makes your brake and turn lights easier to see. Also, on a trip last year, one of my taillights quit working, but with the second set, I still had turn indicators - good peace of mind when highway driving.

These (or any) trailers do not fare well if they are rear-ended. Better visibility means reduced risk. Some folks also add the reflective tape to the rear bumper, like the trucks have. I assume it is required on trucks because of the proven benefit.

tail lights

these extra lights make your trailer tail lights visable , (If you have the rear receiver option for bike or  storage container.) otherwise the tail lights are completely blocked.

extra brake/tail light

ME TOO! The extra brake/tail lights are WAY to high priced and I ordered them anyway. I like the added safety and if you mount something on the 2-inch bike mount hitch the something may block view of the lower lights.

Scamp extra taillights

About 2-3 years ago I did some research on wrecked Scamp and Casita trailers.(About 15 wrecks of each brand.) Casita's  have a tendency roll on their side or roll over. Scamps have a tendency to be rear ended. Adding the extra taillights from the factory or adding a third higher brake light is a very good idea with a Scamp.

Good Option

The 2nd set was on my must buy option list for Scamp........I asked but was told "no" to LED tail lights being available. I wish they had that as an option as well. (The replacement LED bulbs seem to get various reviews and maybe I will look into that when one of the regular bulbs burn out.)

Safety first .............. so adding the 2nd set was important for me.

(After our pickup this past spring I also added the emergency breakaway battery & switch to our trailer. The basic kit is inexpensive so why not?)

Tail Lights

I tried to order the extra tail lights for our 13 footer which we picked up in July and was told that option is not available on the 13 foot model due to the shape of the camper but was available on the larger campers.
