2001 Scamp 19 - Delta TV Antenna

Is it safe to assume that the Delta TV antenna on a Scamp 19, even in "good working order" is useless? It has a small leak that I can fix or if it is useless I want to either remove it altogether or put something else up there.

Delta Junk

The Delta's are no longer made and you cant get parts/ seals for them. They were built for VHF TV signals and now most signal are UHF. When removed they leave a rather large hole and the antenna cable ran across the roof and enter at another point. I made a patch out of 3/16 aluminum plate. Sealed pop riveted, and sealed the rivets. The plate needs to be about 6" in dia. Somewhere I found a template to drill the holes in the plate. (I think in the owners manual package.) I installed a Roadstar omni antenna right on the plate at the time.

Since then there have been several good UHF antennas developed. The King Jack is a fairly good antenna. The current 8500 model base I think is too small to cover your delta hole. The last version I think 8200, the base may be large enough to cover your delta hole. Amazon no longer carries the older model but it is still available from other vendors on line.

Delta antenna inside knobs

Some people have trouble trying to figure out how to remove the inside knobs. Turn the outer knob until you see a hole or slot. Then take a long allen wrench and insert into the hole. (Don't worry about the size yet.) now turn the inner knob until the allen wrench drops into the inner knob slot. At the bottom of the inner knob slot is an allen screw. At this point figure out what size allen wrench you need and remove the inner knob. Then you can see how to take the inside apart.
