Securing your Scamp

We are planning our first trip in the Scamp and I am thinking of ways to secure the camper while we are away sightseeing in the tow vehicle. It would be nice to think that we could just leave it and it would be safe, but history tells me this may not be the case. I put a lock on the hitch on my utility trailer so it can not be hitched to a vehicle and taken, but I am wondering if there is some type of wheel lock that can easily be attached to the camper so it can not be pulled from the sight. Does anyone use such a device?

Wheel Lock

Well I figured that if someone really wanted it they would figure out a way to steal it, but that I would make it harder than other ones to steal. So I bought one of those wheel chock things like the police use that caps around your tire so the car can't drive. I didn't go all out for the heavy duty ones that I think were like $400, I bought a cheaper one that just grips around the tire for maybe $100 or thereabouts. It also came with a locking lug nut to put on the tire so they can't simply remove the tire, put on the spare and go either. Then I got a nice lock for the coupler so it could be in a locked position. These things are so light that I imagine someone could just hook it with chains and go, but again my goal was just to make mine harder to steal than the next guys!

Wheel Lock

We had a hitch lock, best one on the market at that time and they drug the over 2,000 lb pop-up to the street and loaded it on a flatbed by the looks of the tracks and the way someone was operating in the area.  We have used one of these on 3 different trailers over the last 15 years or so: Wheel Lock
