I am expecting my Scamp in September, but I'm a big-time planner. So I've been reading a ton of what everyone's saying and loving all the various modifications. Then I noticed two things: most the mods I like are done on the deluxe models that have wood cabinets to work with and that most the mods require a person that is really comfortable with hand tools. Unfortunately, my upcoming Scamp nor myself meet these requirements.
So I've been pondering what improvements I want to make and exactly how while working with fiberglass. I think the first thing I want to do is find a place to put my bedding when I need to put up the big-bed into a table. So here's what I want to get feedback on --
Is it viable to use some sort of Command 3M hooks on the underside of fiberglass cabinets (I added all the upper cabinets they would allow) and then make a large fabric "sling" or use stretch netting to then hold the bedding during dinette use? I'm imagining something like this running from one back side cabinet to the other back side cabinet (since I ordered both the AC and the fan, I'm not allowed a back cabinet -- won't fit).
Things that concern me:
1. I don't know how much weight I should hang from the underside of a fiberglass cabinet.
2. I don't know ifthe weight in a "sagging" sling pulling on both of the side cabinets is okay to do to those cabinets or if it's better maybe to hang this from the front cabinet so it's all on one cabinet (if #1 is okay above).
3. I don't know if there are other issues I should take into consideration.
I hope I'm not asking obvious questions, but I have yet to see the inside of a scamp except for the pictures online. So I don't have a full understanding of of how the upper cabinets stay up there and what their strength level is -- bolted in? framed in wood? glued? So I'm kind of working in the dark as I progress in my planning. I would love to get advice!
It sounds like you are totally in the dark . The mattress will become part of your table bench so there is no storage problem with same . The only storage will be what you put on the mattress . Use a bed sheet with a good , easily stored , sleeping bag .

I'm sorry. Evidently, I didn't make this clear. I grew up RVing and understand how the bed gets made up and such.
What I've been seeing in a lot of in the discussions is where to put all the bed linens and for many people the 3 inch foam layer they are using on the cushions (I won't know till I get mine if I need to add an additional layer on top of the cushions). At issue is where will all this bed linen go when the dinette is all made up into a dinette. There is very little storage area in the big-bed version of the scamp to hold big puffy things like a set of full size sheets, a queen/full size down comforter, pillows, and maybe a blanket depending on the time of the year. There is no closet in the big bed version like there is in the standard bed version. I will only have a small pantry that I imagine will have kitchen and camping supplies in it. So I mainly will have only what's left -- hanging cupboards with doors that I think are less than 6 inches tall. That's why I'm looking for alternatives and asking for feedback on the questions above.

Our bed is a bed roll on top of the dinette/bed: 3" of foam cut to fit the contour with pad, sheets, and blankets sewn to fit the foam. It rolls up as a unit and gets secured with velcro straps. We stand it and the pillows in the corner of the front bunk when not in use but they could also go in the tow vehicle. In the picture with Paddy, he jumped up as it was being unrolled and ended up underneath.

Velcro sells a strapping material that is just perfect for this. It is called Velcro One Wrap. It consists of a strong strap with hooks on one side and loops (fuzzy) on the other so that when wrapped around something the "fuzzy and sticky" sides meet up and hold onto each other. This is available in white or black. I have purchased it at Home Depot and Walmart (in the sewing section).
This stuff is great just to have around if you want to simply tie something up (like wrap your hose or an extension cord).
By-the-way, this stuff sews really well and can be used to hang things like curtains or a window cover for the glass in the door.

Lilly and I have a big bed 13. When the dinette is set up, we store the sheets and pillows at the rear of the camper under the bed extension which is slid against of the rear of the camper. Since we use no mattress padding, it all stores nicely.

We have a standard 13', and my husband sleeps on the rear bed and I sleep on the couch. I had to find storage for a 2" mattress pad, a queen-size down bed, two sets of sheets, two comforters, and three pillows! I don't like anything "out of place" during the day, as the space is quite small to begin with. I put everything but one comforter and the foam pad in the storage bins under the couch and in one overhead cabinet beside the dinette. We put the comforter and foam pad in a storage tote we keep our tow vehicle. The tote also holds our outdoor rugs, folding chairs, awning, and grill. Quite a learning curve learning to utilize every inch of storage space after camping in a large RV! You may find that all your bedding stows quite nicely once you get your Egg. Have fun!

If you order the side rear cabinets you can install a shelf between the two rear cabinets. Many use wire closet shelving from HD or Lowes to bridge between the two cabinets. I adapted some stainless steel tube shelving from IKEA. The rods were about 1.5" short, so I made wood blocks to fill the space and space the rods. Mine was great storage for all the bedding. The foam can be rolled up and stood on end and stashed somewhere.

Eddie, I liked that idea when I saw it as a modification, but I saw it with wood cabinets. So just to clarify, you did this with fiberglass cabinets? I just want to be sure -- kind of scares me to drill into the fiberglass cupboards (while I would have not problem drilling into wood -- that's familiar to me).

No closet with the big bed is news to me.

Go here http://www.scamptrailers.com/showroom/13-standard-trailers.html#!2016021... and pop through the photos will you find the one with the stove on left and the pantry, instead of the closet, on the right. It's because in going for the big bed we gave up 10 inches. I like the pantry better -- since it has top and bottom doors and access. But since we lose 10 inches to the countertop I'm thinking some of my kitchen stuff will be over in the pantry. That's why I'm thinking of the space and how to use it.
