I've been considering buying a used trailer from an out of state seller. I didn't see anything in the resources providing information on the selling/buying process.
I'm interested in the best way to pay without carrying large amounts of cash.
If I were selling, I'd be concerned about accepting certain types of payment. Any recommendations?

while we don't get too involved in the money end since that is worked out between buyer - seller I have purchased/sold quite a few trailers. My preferred method is to meet at a bank and have them wire transfer into the sellers account right in front of everyone. They can give receipt and confirmation of wire right there, but again will depend on what the seller will agree to.
Registration/title are state specific and we highly recommend you call ur state dmv and get all their requirements for transferring an out of state trailer.

We traveled from the greater St. Louis are to Columbia SC to purchase our Scamp. We arranged to meet at a Bank of America at a large mall parking lot right next to a police station. We carried no large amounts of cash, the bank did everything for us. They made out a bank certified check for him, and he showed us everything on the Scamp and powered up what he could. He assured us all worked, and it did. So, let the bank work for you without then necessity to carry large sums of cash.

You need to know the DMV requirements of both states. You can contact your local DMV and they will tell you what you need to have from each state. Not all states have trailer titles, or require tags. The big gotcha is does the sellers state require a notary. I have traveled several hundred miles to find out you have to scramble to find a notary at the last minute. This can be a big issue on a weekend pickup. You also need to check your state DMV if a trip permit is available to get your trailer home in lieu of tags. My state had a 3 day trip permit but has recently extended it to allow for cross country pick ups. It is also a good idea to get the VIN early and insure the trailer before you hit the road with your new to you trailer.
