Power Outage (Did Scamp skimp)?

I have a 2016 Scamp 16. It has a Progressive Industries 9130 converter and the 30w hard wired surge protector. The fuse box (and Scamps wiring diagram) only shows a 20 amp fuse for the 12v system. Progressive shows the converter having two fuses near the 12v output of the unit...I only have one.  Problem? Also the 120 works everywhere in the trailer but if I plug something in say a heater that draws 10amps, the voltage meter on the surge protector drops an equal amount to the amp draw, i.e. 10 amp draw lowers voltage in from 120 to 110. Help!

Power Outage (Did Scamp skimp)?

As an individual preparing to take delivery in the future, this post above is rather disconcerting.  Are others having electrical problems?  Barb

Power Outage?

A 10 amp load causing a 10 volt drop at the far end of an extension cord is to be expected. That's why Scamps come with heavy duty cord and a 30 amp plug. If you're plugged in at a site that provides that level of service, you can run your air conditioner and microwave at the same time without an appreciable voltage drop. Regarding your 12 volt concern: 20 amps at 12 volts is only 2 amps at 120 volts. It's been my experience that Scamps are adequately wired. Nothing to worry about.

I upgraded my power converter

I upgraded my power converter, as Scamp puts in a converter very similar to that of a pop up camper.

Upgraded converter

What did you upgrade to Doug? In addition to my other problems, the battery is not charging off the converter. I'm only getting 12.7 volts across the output side. Good thing I've got solar.

Ai posted my new power

I posted my new power converter on a previous posting in the Forum. Has a cooling fan, new breakers, and lights that come on when a fuse blows. Nice improvement for sure.

converter

I recently installed a Progressive Dynamics PD4045 from bestconverters.com along with a hard wired surge protector. IIRC Doug used a similar converter from another well respected brand, I just can't recall the brand off the top of my head. I would highly recommend bestconverters.com, especially since some converters from Amazon are from unauthorized sellers and have the serial numbers removed. The price differential was negligible and they carry several brands.

AC Voltage Drop

Generally speaking adding a 10 watt load will not lower your voltage, however, if the power source your Scamp is plugged into is not capable of supplying the full 30 amps then you will experience the voltage drop. This voltage drop is also possible if you are plugged into a 15 or 20 amp circuit and you are using a long extension cord to reach your Scamp.

Many times the campgrounds may be "under powered" and not capable of supplying the full 30 (or 50) amps to all of their power boxes at the same time. This is especially true if the electrical system is old or the campground is full and it is a hot day and all the Class A's are running both of their Air Conditioning units.

It is a good idea to watch your voltage and not run your A/C or Microwave or other sensitive electronics when the voltages are too low.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!
