Hi Again,
We have a Scamp 13 on order. We purchased the roof AC (wife insisted) and the Max Air roof fan as options. My question is: With the AC option do we really need the Max Air roof fan ?

I don't know if you do, but I live in Illinois and I need both. The fan does an amazing job of moving fresh air but, there are times when I want air conditioning. There are times when we boondock with no shore power and then the fan is a Godsend.

I don't have AC, but if I were camping in a really hot area it would be great. The fan does a great job on "hot" days up to high 80s. I like fresh air vs. AC anyway though--I rarely turn my bedroom air on at home. With the Scamp windows and door open that fan really moves some air!

Sorry to say on most days and nights we use the fan too but on the hot+ days the AC is for me. We have even used the fan on the lowest speed to move air and humidity when the furnace or heater has been used at the same time to remove some of the sweating. Or just the fan open but no fan operating.

I just wish Scamp offered an AC unit that was a bit smaller. 13500 BTU for a Scamp 13 seems a bit large.
When the temperatures were in the 115 F range, it seemed about the right size! We probably had the coolest RV in the park (pun intended).
Have the fan too, like having both. They cover different ambient temperature ranges, and the fan works in 12V only situations.
Thanks all for your input. I'm convinced that the best course of action for us,are both the AC and roof fan.
I think we will be more comfortable and both will make for a happier campers if we can get a good nights sleep in the heat and humidity of summer.
I too am amazed why a 13.5 unit is chosen for a 6'6" X10 space One might imagine a 9,000 would be enough.

Salukispeed,
Many years ago, I was employed as an inventory analyst. If two A/C identities were in the system, there is another chance for build error. There would be two indentities purchased at lower volumes at a higher cost. I would think that an A/C unit is one of the most expensive componets in the camper's build. At the end of the year inventory is considered an asset.
At the end of the day, the bean counters rule.

I can under stand and Respect where the Bean counter thoughts are coming from but if the best fit and operation suffers have we really done right by the customer in the end?
No offense, just an opinion of an old guy

Salukispeed,
Certainly no offense is taken. That is a tough question,,,,, and I can't really answer it.
Last month, my wife and I ordered a new 13' Deluxe with a front dinette. We requested no front window, no water heater and no electric water pump. It will have A/C with heat strip and a furnace. The order fits most of our needs, but most people who order will order a much different configuration. We carry a 3500 watt generator in our truck and on a hot humid night camping at the farm that air conditioner and generator is much appreciated.
